Apprenticeships
Fire, Emergency & Security Systems
Apprenticeships for Employers with Access Training

Duration of the programme: Approximately 33 months
Upcoming start dates: September 2026
The Fire, Security & Emergency Systems apprenticeship standard has come a long way since the original frameworks were introduced many years ago, and it now has an increased focus on the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a successful engineer with the ability to install, maintain and repair a variety of electronic security and emergency systems.
The programme covers a wide range of transferrable skills such as working safely, core systems techniques and system technology. Knowledge includes: health & safety, electrical & electronic principles, practices & procedures, customer service, communication and commercial awareness.
Delivery is through a mixture of training (both on and off the job) and weekly day release at our Team Valley training centre throughout the duration of the programme.
The apprentice will work towards the level 3 Fire, Emergency & Security Systems Apprenticeship (FESSA) standard. Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English are a pre-requisite for entry onto this programme.
Assessment
Towards the end of the apprenticeship, the employer and our Trainer will agree when the apprentice is ready for the end point assessment (EPA). An independent assessment organisation will carry out the EPA to assess whether the apprentice has met all of the requirements of the standard. This assessment has 3 components which need to be passed, including a knowledge test, professional discussion and a practical skills test (which will be workshop based).
Typical job roles:
- Apprentice Engineer
- Trainee Installer
- Maintenance Technician
